MSU Shooter Dead Off-Campus After Beginning Shooting at Berkey Hall Monday Night; 3 Killed, 5 Critical

in a statement, MSU Police posted on Twitter: “There have been shots fired near Berkey Hall on the East Lansing campus. Please secure-in-place immediately. Police are active on scene. More information to follow.”

East Lansing police, MSU police, Ingham County Sheriff deputies and other law enforcement were on the scene. Police tactical teams and armored vehicles are on the scene.

Two victims were found in the Union in the cafeteria.

Police are actively searching for the shooter. Shots were still being fired at 8:25 p.m. ET, according to calls into 9-1-1.

Michigan State University Police and Public Safety announced that the shooting suspect was located off campus with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. The MSU Police and Public Safety stated at 11:28 p.m. that there is no longer a threat to campus and the shelter-in-place has been lifted.

Fox 2 Detroit reported that the shooter was found dead at Lake Lansing Road and North East Street in Lansing, Michigan about northwest of Berkey Hall.

Located on the northern boundary of the Michigan State University campus, Berkey Hall is the location for the College of Social Science, the Institute for Public Policy and Social Research, and the Department of Sociology.

Berkey Hall is an L-shaped building, covering property about 270 feet by 170 feet, and standing 5 1/2-stories tall.

The building located next to eh Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum, to the east; and the Olin Memorial Health Center to the west.
