Police, firefighters and paramedics from Arlington Heights and Metra police responded about 11:28 p.m. Thursday, January 26, 2023 to a report that a Metra train on the Union Pacific Northwest Line hit a pedestrian in Arlington Heights. A man was found deceased under the passenger train between Vail Avenue and Dunton Avenue near the Metra train station platform. The man jumped in front of outbound Metra Train #663 and was hit by the train.
Initially, all outbound trains were halted. At least one additional track was released for other trains by about 1:15 a.m. Metra train #665 was allowed to pass and provide service to the station. Train #665 then continued on to other northwest suburbs west of Arlington Heights.
Metra train #663 was on the move again about 2:25 a.m. and the body was removed, and the scene was cleaned and disinfected shortly afterwards.
The victim may not have had identification, and his age was not provided by the Cook County Medical Examiners Office.
