Des Plaines police responded just before 9:36 p.m. Sunday, January 15, 2023 to a report of shots fired in the block of 1300 Perry Street in Des Plaines. Upon arrival, police discovered a 16 year-old boy with multiple gunshot wounds down in the street near a curb, and immediately requested paramedics respond to the scene. Police determined the scene was secure, and paramedics began Advanced Life Support for the teen, who died after being shot.
The entire block, located on a dark street, was shut down with crime scene perimeter tape, and an evidence protection tent was set up.
A witness in the neighborhood heard about five gunshots. Immediately after the shots were heard, a light-colored vehicle with some type of illumination near a side mirror on the vehicle departed from the scene eastbound on Perry Street, and then headed southbound on Graceland Avenue toward the area where Northwest Highway becomes Miner Street in downtown Des Plaines.
Initially there is no known description of a suspect or suspects in the shooting. Des Plaines Police Department is classifying the shooting as an isolated incident with no threat to the general public.
