Police, firefighters, and paramedics from Rolling Meadows responded about 4:46 p.m. Friday, December 9, 2022 to a report that a pedestrian and a dog were hit by a vehicle in the block of 2100 Kirchoff Road in Rolling Meadows.
Police officers, firefighters and paramedics upon arrival discovered a woman unresponsive, a seriously injured dog, and a silver Toyota Prius with front-end damage and a damaged windshield. The woman was transported with life-threatening injuries to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights, where she was pronounced dead at 5:24 p.m. The woman was 82 years-old. Her identity was not initially released pending proper notifications
The injured dog was transported from the scene to a veterinarian’s office by a Good Samaritan in the neighborhood. The dog died a short time later.
Two people in the Toyota Prius did not initially report any injuries, and refused transportation by paramedics to the hospital. The driver of the silver Toyota Prius is a 45 year-old woman from Arlington Heights. Two occupants were traveling in the Toyota Prius — the 45 year-old driver, and a girl in the age category of middle school or late elementary school.
The fatal crash is under investigation by the Rolling Meadows Police Department and the Major Case Assistance Team — Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction unit (MCAT-STAR).
Kirchoff Road was shut down between Dove Street and Oriole Lane for rescue and an extended crash investigation. Kirchoff Road remained closed in the area as of 7:10 p.m. The Toyota Prius was stopped in the westbound shoulder lane of Kirchoff Road — a four lane main roadway in Rolling Meadows. The Speed Limit on Kirchoff Road is 35 MPH. The crash occurred about 25 minutes after sunset in darkness or near darkness/twilight.
