A Park Ridge woman died after she was involved in a crash at the intersection of Milwaukee Avenue and Howard Street in Niles Wednesday afternoon. Peggy Pisani, age 82, of Park Ridge, was the driver of a dark gray or black Honda Civic that was involved in a crash with another vehicle, and a large traffic signal standard.
Police and firefighter/paramedics from Niles responded about 3:45 p.m. Wednesday, December 21, 2022 to a report of a crash with injuries and entrapment at Howard Street and Milwaukee Avenue in Niles. Police from Chicago also responded to the scene, and firefighters and paramedics from Morton Grove and Park Ridge also responded to the crash.
Niles Fire Department Engine 3’s crew on arrival reported a car into a pole with “heavy, heavy” damage. A female adult victim (Peggy Pisani) in the crashed car was a confirmed pin-in at 3:47 PM. There was also a report from a caller by 3:48 PM of a second person injured in a white Honda Accord further down the road. While being treated by paramedics, Peggy Pisani was extricated from the Honda Civic by 3:55 p.m. Then paramedics transported her to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, where she was pronounced dead at 12:35 a.m. Thursday, December 22, 2022.
The driver of the white Honda Accord, a 71 year-old male, was a medical refusal; he was not transported by paramedics to a hospital, and his identity was not released.
Investigators discovered that Pisani was driving the Honda Civic when she apparently attempted to turn left from a driveway at 7601 Milwaukee Avenue to travel southbound on Milwaukee Avenue. Her Honda Civic struck the Honda Accord, driven by the 71 year-old man. After colliding with the the Honda Accord, the front of the Honda Civic crashed into a large traffic signal standard.
Each driver was alone in each vehicle when the crash occurred.
The N.O.R.T.A.F. Major Crash Assistance Team (M.C.A.T.) was assigned to assist with the investigation of the crash, and the area of the intersection was affected by lane closures and traffic delays for several hours for an extended cash investigation.
