Police, firefighters and paramedics from Arlington Heights responded about 5:20 p.m. Thursday, December 8, 2022 to a report that a vehicle crashed with a Metra train on the Union Pacific Northwest Line near Arlington Heights Road and Northwest Highway (US-14).
Arlington Heights Fire Department paramedics helped a driver out of the car after the crash, and transported their patient to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights. The driver appeared to be conscious and talking as she was moved to the ambulance in a gurney.
There were two Metra trains at the crash scene after the crash. The driver of a blue Toyota Corolla may have been confused while crossing, and the rear passenger side of the car was clipped by at least one of the trains, causing moderate to severe damage to the back of the car. The car ended up in a walkway in Dunton Park at the northeast corner of Northwest Highway and Arlington Heights Road, facing southbound. The car may have spun around as it was crossing the intersection of Arlington Heights Road and Northwest Highway.
The investigation of the crash is being conducted by Metra Police — also assigned to the crash scene.
The railroad crossing re-opened about 7:20 p.m.
