Police and firefighter/paramedics from Niles responded about 3:45 p.m. Wednesday, December 21, 2022 to a report of a crash with injuries and entrapment at Howard Street and Milwaukee Avenue in Niles.
Police from Chicago also responded to the scene, and firefighters and paramedics from Morton Grove and Park Ridge also responded to the crash.
Engine 3’s crew on arrival reported a car into a pole with “heavy, heavy” damage. One patient in the crashed car was a confirmed pin-in at 3:47 PM. There was also a report from a caller by 3:48 PM of a second person injured in a white vehicle further down the road. A patient in a dark sedan was extricated by 3:55 p.m., and transported to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge with life-threatening injuries.
Occupants in the other vehicle were all medical refusals, and were not transported by paramedics.
The N.O.R.T.A.F. Major Crash Assistance Team (M.C.A.T.) was assigned to assist with the investigation of the crash, and the area of the intersection will be affected by lane closures and traffic delays for several hours. The crash was also reported on Waze.
