Police, firefighters and paramedics from Mount Prospect responded about 2:38 p.m. Friday, December 2, 2022 to a report of a crash with injuries at the Menards Garden Center, 740 East Rand Road in Mount Prospect. The Mount Prospect Fire Department responded with an extrication response, but fortunately no pedestrians were trapped or injured at the scene, and the driver was apparently not injured.
For an unknown reason, the driver of a gray Toyota sedan left the parking lane and crashed into a bollard that protects the storefront at the Menards Garden Center on the west side of the store. The driver refused transportation by paramedics, and no other passengers were in the car. The Toyota sedan was wrecked with severe front-end damage.
A pedestrian walking to enter the Menards store was about to walk over the steel tow cable while the car was being reeled in to the flatbed tow truck, but police and tow crew from Hillside Towing warned him to avoid the area. The Hillside crew had placed a fluorescent yellow vest on the steel tow cable to warn people to notice and avoid the steel cable, but a pedestrian on his way to enter the store took a diagonal route toward the store’s front door, and was about to step over the cable while the car was being reeled in to the Hillside tow truck. The customer complied, and walked around.
