A Spring Grove police officer about 12:30 a.m. Saturday, November 26, 2022, near State Park Road and Route 12, attempted to stop the driver of a 2005 Ford F–350 pickup truck, which was reported stolen. The driver of the pickup truck didn’t stop, but the rammed the police vehicle, and fled to Waukegan via Kenosha County, Wisconsin with the stolen vehicle.
The police pursuit originating in Spring Grove traversed into Kenosha County in Wisconsin on eastbound Highway C and into Lake County, and ended in Waukegan after the vehicle was rendered inoperable by spiked stop sticks deployed in Kenosha County. The driver continued south on I-94 with at least one destroyed tire, and stopped near Leith Avenue and Atlantic Avenue in Waukegan. The driver bailed out, leaving the disabled truck with a deflated front tire, and fled on foot. He remained at large Monday after a K-9 search of the area early Saturday morning.
A person believed to have been a passenger in the pickup truck during the pursuit remained in the pickup truck, and was detained.
The distance of the pursuit was over 20 miles. The shortest route contained to Illinois is 19.9 miles between Route 12 and State Park Road Spring Grove, and Leith Avenue and Atlantic Avenue in Waukegan. Kenosha County Sheriff’s Office Deputies terminated their participation in the pursuit when the pursuit re-entered Illinois.
