The Lake County Coroner’s Office on Tuesday, November 29, 2022 released the identity of the victim of a reported accidental shooting in the block of 100 Crooked Lake Lane in Lindenhurst as Charles Holmes, age 44, of Lindenhurst. Initially, the victim’s name was withheld until completion of an autopsy by the Lake County Coroner’s Office.
Lindenhurst Police Officers were dispatched about 2:10 p.m. Thanksgiving Day, November 24, 2022 to a report of an accidental shooting at a single-family home in the 0-100 block of Crooked Lake Lane, Lindenhurst. A female caller placed the emergency call from the residence and reported the accidental shooting, and that a male adult had been shot in the abdomen.
Lindenhurst officers on arrival discovered a 44-year old male gunshot victim, who was suffering from single gunshot wound in the abdomen in the garage. Police determined the scene was secure, and then paramedics from the Lake Villa Fire Department, treated and transported the 44-year old male subject to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where the shooting victim was pronounced dead Thursday evening.
Lindenhurst police officers conducted a preliminary investigation, to include interviews and evidence collection. A round was reportedly fired accidentally in the garage. The case was reviewed with the Lake County States Attorney’s Office and subsequent criminal charges were approved.
Lindenhurst police officers arrested and charged Kellee M. Holmes, age 41, of the same address as the victim, with one count of Reckless Discharge of a Firearm, which is a Classy 4 felony. Holmes was processed and transported to the Lake County Jail. Kellee Holmes appeared in bond court Friday morning, November 25, 2022, and was released on a $20,000 Recognizance Bond.

the defendant Kellee Holmes was present in Courtroom T020;
a Public Defender was appointed;
the victim was described as the 44 year-old husband of Kellee Holmes;
the defendant’s husband urinated or was urinating in a corner of the garage after the couple returned from a shopping trip at a grocery store;
the gun was discharged while Kellee Homes exited a vehicle, and the defendant’s husband was struck in the abdomen;
Kellee Holmes possesses a valid FOID card and a Concealed Carry License;
the court found no probable cause for the “reckless” factor of the Reckless Discharge of a Firearm felony charge;
Kellee Holmes has five children; and
Lake County Judge Bolling Haxall would release Kellee Holmes on $20,000 recognizance bond.
According to an Instagram account @kelleemholmes that includes photos of the defendant, and matches the name of the suspect, Kellee Holmes was married two years to her husband in October 2021. According to the Instagram account profile, Kellee Holmes indicates she is an Herbalife Member, a Health Coach, and Independent Travel Agent.
According to Illinois Policy, sentences prescribed for a Class 4 felony conviction range from between one and three years, but the actual time served by those convicted of Class 4 felony offenses is 0.64 years on average, or a little more than seven months. Some examples of Class 4 felonies are possession of any amount of certain controlled substances, retail theft and driving with a revoked license.
