Police, firefighters, and paramedics from Hanover Park responded about 3:52 p.m. Sunday, October 30, 2022 to a report of a house fire with a woman trapped in the block of 7300 Thornwood Street in Hanover Park. A neighbor initially called 9-1-1 reporting the fire. An older adult died in the fire, and two children escaped to safety.
Police on arrival reported flames showing out the back of the home, and attempted a rescue. Squad 15, the first fire crew on the scene, reported heavy smoke and fire showing from a single-story, single-family home.
The fire was located in a rear bedroom. Firefighters had two lines on the fire, and the fire was under control by 4:13 p.m. An adult female was found deceased in the home. Two children were sheltered at a neighbor’s home.
Firefighters, paramedics and/or command officers from Bartlett and Streamwood also responded to the scene. Hanover Township Emergency Services personnel were also assigned to the fire scene.
The Illinois State Fire Marshal was requested to the scene about 4:20 p.m.
