An explosion occurred on the road division of the Crimean Bridge about 6:07 a.m. (Moscow Time/GMT+3), Saturday, October 8 2022. Initial report indicates the explosion and fire aftermath killed three people that were traveling in a motor vehicle. Seven railroad fuel tanker cars also ignited, causing an extensive fire on the parallel rail bridge adjacent to the vehicle road division of the bridg. Sections of the road bridge collapsed.
Russian state media reported that a truck was connected to the explosion. Senior Ukrainian officials in the past have stated that the bridge would be a legitimate target for a missile strike. Initially neither Ukraine nor NATO have released an official statement on the incident.
Vladimir Konstantinov, a Russian-installed leader in Crimea, accused Ukraine vandals of causing the explosion, deaths and damage. Any obstruction of the bridge is a hindrance to Russian war operations against Ukraine. Kerch Bridge has been in operation only about four years.
