Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies and firefighters and paramedics from Lake Forest responded about 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 11, 2022 to a report of a motorcycle crash with injuries at Route 41 near Washington Avenue in unincorporated Lake Bluff. Sheriff’s deputies arrived and found a motorcyclist deceased at the scene.
Witnesses reported the motorcyclist was traveling at a high rate of speed prior to the crash.
Preliminary investigation shows a Suzuki motorcycle, driven by a 31-year-old man of Great Lakes, was traveling northbound on Route 41. Traffic in front of the motorcycle began to slow, however the operator of the motorcycle was unable to slow in time. The motorcycle struck the rear of a Chevrolet Tahoe, driven by a 40-year-old woman of Lake Bluff. This impact with the Chevrolet Tahoe caused the motorcyclist to be thrown forward from the motorcycle. The motorcyclist slid underneath a trailer being pulled by a Peterbilt Semi. The semi-trailer truck was driven by a 59-year-old man of Mundelein, who was traveling in front of the Chevrolet. The motorcyclist was run over by the wheels of the trailer.
The drivers of the Chevrolet and Peterbilt were uninjured.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene and an autopsy is being scheduled.
The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Team. The Speed Limit on Route 41 near the crash scene is 55 MPH according to Google Maps Street View.
