Police and firefighter/paramedics from Prospect Heights responded about 3:13 p.m. Friday, October 14, 2022 to a report of teen gunshot victim in the block of 500 Piper Lane in Prospect Heights.
Upon arrival police confirmed the scene was secure and police, firefighters, and paramedics worked using life-saving measures, but the male teen, age 14, was pronounced dead at the scene about 35 minutes later.
A witness observed CPR being performed at the scene.
According to the Prospect Heights Police Department, the initial investigation did not indicate whether the fatal shooting occurred from an accidental discharge or a deliberate act of violence.
A witness at the scene saw police with their guns drawn, and also observed police speeding away from the scene with lights and sirens activated. Several teens gathered near the scene wondering what had happened.
