Meteorologist Jim Cantore, with The Weather Channel, was reporting live from Punta Gorda, Florida Wednesday afternoon September 28, 2022 about the time of landfall of Hurricane Ian when he was hit by a tree branch sliding quickly down the street.
Jim Cantore was having difficulty maintaining his stance in high winds when a branch about one-inch diameter hit him in the lower leg. He decided to get out of the middle of the street to get to cover, and held on to a street sign post that was next to another street sign post that had already blown to the ground.
Cantore did not initially appear to be injured
Earlier Wednesday he was reporting live when a cloud-to-ground lightning strike hit nearby, which also caused him to head for cover.
