Police from Chicago responded about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 14, 2022 to a report of an armed robbery the Lincoln Park Apple Store in the block of 1500 North Halsted Street in Chicago. The Lincoln Park Apple Store is located at the southwest corner of North Avenue and Halsted Street.
Chicago police on arrival at the scene learned that an 86 year-old male victim was being robbed at gunpoint, when one private security officer with the security detail of Mayor Christopher Clark of Harvey, Illinois, drew his weapon and discharged his firearm towards the offender. A police radio report indicated three shots were fired after pinned a man to the ground to grab his cell phone. No injuries were initially reported.
Security detail for the mayor of the City of Harvey were in a vehicle with Mayor Christopher Clark when the saw the shooter get out of a Jeep with tinted windows, and witnessed the attempted robbery before shots were fired by the security officer. The mayor had just left the Lincoln Park Apple Store.
The offender attempted to flee the scene in a black Jeep, and a second shot may have been fired by the private security officer. No arrests were made, and the armed robber remained at large as of Wednesday night. A rear window of the Jeep was shattered.
Chicago Police Department Area Three detectives are investigating.
