The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, Johnsburg Police Department, and the McHenry Township Fire and Rescue Department responded about 5:05 a.m.Saturday, September 3, 2022 to a single vehicle car vs tree crash on Route 31 south of Ringwood Road in unincorporated McHenry County.
Police, deputies and firefighters arrived to find the a subcompact SUV became fully engulfed in fire after a crash with the tree. The two occupants of the vehicle were unable to exit the vehicle, and were pronounced deceased on scene.
Preliminary investigation indicates the driver of a 2008 Saturn Vue was traveling southbound Route 31 south of Ringwood Road, Ringwood in unincorporated McHenry County. For unknown reasons, the Saturn crossed the center line, traveled through the northbound lane, and left the roadway to the east and struck a tree.
Release of the identities of both occupants of the Saturn are pending confirmation from the McHenry County Coroner’s Office. Initially information has not been obtained indicating whether alcohol and/or drugs were a factor in this crash. This case remains under investigation by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Crash Investigation Unit and the McHenry County Coroner’s Office.
