Highland Park police officers responded about 3:21 p.m. Monday, August 8, 2022 to a report of a home invasion/ruse burglary attempt in the block of 2300 Shady Lane in Highland Park. Initially the victims believed that the suspects did not take any items.
Police received a report that three male offenders told a resident that there was a problem with water in the neighborhood. Two suspects attempted to distract a resident, while a third suspect attempted to prowl throughout the second floor.
The suspects were described as …
#1) a male/black tall, heavy set, wearing a traffic safety vest, a blue shirt and a Lake County name tag,
#2) a male/Hispanic 5’10” heavy set, and
#3) a male/black, tall, medium building wearing a traffic safety vest and a white T-shirt.
The suspects attempted to prevent the residents from call 9-1-1 after one resident observed one of the offenders on the second floor.
The offenders fled in a silver or gray SUV — possibly a Kia Sorrento. The direction of the SUV was unknown. The vehicle had “Dealer Plates” attached.
