The UpRising Bakery and Cafe was vandalized late Friday night, July 22, 2022 on the eve of a planned drag show event scheduled for 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. today, Saturday, July 23, 2022 at the cafe located at 2104 West Algonquin Road in Lake in the Hills.
The Lake in the Hills Police Department announced at 9:12 a.m. Saturday, July 23, 2022 that a suspect has been arrested.
The Uprising Bakery and Cafe announced overnight that the Saturday, July 23, 2022 event had been cancelled.

For the safety of the performers, staff, and community we have cancelled tomorrows event and will be closed Saturday 7/23/22. At this time we ask everyone: DO NOT COME TO OUR LOCATION AT ALL TODAY.

According to the Lake in the Hills Police Department, the police department began to receive messages from concerned citizens about a drag show performance being hosted by the UpRising Bakery and Cafe at 2104 West Algonquin Road, and scheduled for July 23, 2022. The police department stated there were no violations indicated as part of the scheduled performance.
Since the posting of the advertisement for the event, uprising bakery and Café’s owner reported receiving in–person and online threats to the business. The Lake in the Hills Police Department reported taking reports and was investigating these incidents.
Uprising Bakery and Cafe opened with a “soft opening” at its location on Algonquin Road on November 1, 2021 after the chef quit with less than 18 hours notice of the original first soft opening date of October 30, 2021. The original “soft opening” was planned for October 30, 2021 to November 5, 2021. The approval process for the business with Lake in the Hills occurred earlier in 2021.
