Westminster Police Officers in California responded about 5:51 p.m. Wednesday, July 13, 2022 to a report of a stabbing at the 76 gas station, located at 6322 Westminster Blvd in Westminster. The victim, NASCAR driver Bobby East, was found on the ground suffering from a serious stab wound to the chest area. Officers attempted life saving measures until Orange County Fire Authority paramedics arrived and transported Bobby East to a local trauma center. Bobby East was pronounced dead at the trauma center. Initially the victim’s identity was withheld pending notification to next of kin.
Westminster Police Department detectives responded to the scene and took over the investigation. Trent William Millsap, who fled the area prior to police arrival, is suspected of stabbing the victim, according to the Westminster Police Department. Trent William Millsap also has an outstanding parole warrant. Millsap was described as a male, white, 6‘05” tall, muscular build, bald, tattoos on his head, face, neck, chest, arms, and hands.
Westminster Police Department detectives received information on Friday, July 15, 2022, that a wanted homicide suspect was in an apartment located in the 3300 block of Lincoln Avenue in the City of Anaheim. The West County SWAT Team responded to serve a search/arrest warrant for the suspect. During the service of the search warrant, an officer involved shooting took place. No officers were injured; however, a police K-9 sustained a single gunshot wound that was not life threatening.
The wanted homicide suspect shot and killed during police activity at the apartment was identified as Trent William Millsap.
The Westminster Police Department, along with members of the Orange County District Attorney’s office are currently investigating the shooting.
Bobby East was born in Torrance, California which is about 18 miles west of Westminster.
Milsap was considered armed and dangerous. Millsap is transient and known to frequent Westminster, Garden Grove, and Anaheim motels.
Westminster Police Department detectives are continuing the investigation in hopes of locating all evidence and witnesses and urge anyone who witnessed the crime on July 13, 2022.
