Police from Inverness and Palatine, and firefighters and paramedics from Palatine Rural Fire Protection District responded about 8:33 p.m., Monday, July 18, 2022 to a report that a man shot himself in the head in a vehicle stopped on the shoulder at Palatine Road and Ela Road in Inverness. A male victim was reported to have been stopped in a police traffic stop when a self-inflicted gunshot wound occurred.
The male patient was transported to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge* in a Palatine Rural Fire Protection District ambulance with extra paramedics on board for Advanced Life Support. The male, age 21, was pronounced dead at the hospital.
* CARDINAL NEWS received a tip that the 21 year-old man was transported to Northwest Community Hospital because his condition was “too critical” to make it Lutheran General. The tip has NOT been verified.
Palatine Road was closed overnight between Ela Road and Thornbark Drive in Inverness while investigators from the Major Case Assistance Team (MCAT) investigated the scene. A silver Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck was positioned along the right shoulder of eastbound Palatine Road just west of Ela Road. An Inverness Police Department SUV, also facing eastbound, was positioned directly behind the Silverado in the position of an apparent traffic stop.
