Paramedics inside a Chicago Fire Department ambulance reported about 1:43 a.m. Friday, July 1, 2022 that shots were fired right in front of them near the firehouse at 419 South Wells Street in Chicago. The paramedics reported gunshot victims down on the street, and requested an EMS Plan 1 to treat multiple gunshot victims once the shooting stopped, and once police arrived in the Loop neighborhood.
A 29 year-old male and a 26 year-old male were shot and killed on Wells Street. Each were transported Code Red in a Chicago Fire Department ambulance, but they were pronounced dead after they arrived at Stroger Hospital.
Three victims were transported in personal vehicles, leaving the scene before paramedics arrived. They were three male gunshot victim, age 35, age 29, and age unknown, who arrived at Northwestern Medical Center, where they were listed in good condition. The 35 year-old male was shot in the arm, the 29 year-old male was shot in the buttocks. Details about the other shooting victim were unknown.
Police indicated the shooting followed an argument while people were leaving the PERSONA nightclub nearby. A shooter involved in the argument pulled out a handgun and shot the five victims, according to police.
The crime scene is located just north of Ida B. Well Drive, where I-290 ends just before Canal Street, and just south of Van Buren Street.
