Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched about 12:10 a.m., Thursday, June 16, 2022 to a report of a burglary in progress at a residence in the block of 25800 West Marquette Drive, Ingleside. While responding, sheriff’s deputies were informed the victim homeowner of the Marquette Drive home was holding the burglar at gunpoint.
Lake County Sheriff’s deputies arrived and found James J. Rizzo, 34, of the 100 block of Windward Road, Lakemoor, being detained by the victim. Sheriff’s deputies arrested Rizzo. Further investigation revealed Rizzo burglarized the victim’s car, as it was parked in the driveway. Rizzo utilized the car’s garage door opener to open the garage and enter the home. The victim, who was sleeping, awoke and found Rizzo inside the master bedroom. The victim held Rizzo at gunpoint until sheriff’s deputies arrived.
After reviewing the circumstances, the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office approved a charge of residential burglary (class 1 felony) against Rizzo.
According to Lake County Court records, James J. Rizzo has a criminal history of trespass in September 2021, domestic battery in May 2019, possession of a controlled substance in January 2016, theft/possession of stolen property in May 2014, possession of a controlled substance in September 2013, theft/possession of stolen property in August 2010, and orders of protection in May 2022 and February of 1996.
James J. Rizzo also has a record of multiple traffic citations.
Rizzo remains held in the Lake County Jail pending an initial court hearing this morning.
All defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
