Police, firefighters and paramedics from Buffalo Grove responded about 3:51 p.m. Wednesday, June 8, 2022 to investigate a possible hazmat incident reported at or near a commercial building at 850 Asbury Drive in Buffalo Grove. Firefighters received a report that there was foam spewing in a creek behind the business.
A substance that smelled like soap was discovered in Aptakisic Creek, which feeds into the Des Plaines River near Milwaukee Avenue and Inverrary Lane just northeast of the Chevy Chase Country Club.
Firefighters inspected the area near Aptakisic Junior High School and the Windbrooke Crossing apartments, and commercial areas north of the creek. The substance may have come from as far west as the Windbrooke Crossing apartments, but firefighters continued to investigate as late as 5:00 p.m.
The source was not identified as of 5:00 p.m. The incident was a Hazmat Level 1 incident with a response from the Buffalo Grove Battalion Chief, an engine crew, an ambulance crew, and a quint crew.
