Police, firefighters and paramedics from Arlington Heights responded about 11:11 a.m. Sunday, May 22, 2022 to a report of a crash with injuries at Arlington Heights Road and Rand Road in Arlington Heights.
Police, firefighters, and paramedics arrived to find that the driver of a red Volvo crashed into a large metal light pole, and that the light pole crashed onto the roof and windshield of a black Toyota Camry. Initially, no injuries were reported and all people involved in the crash reported they did not need paramedics to transport them to the hospital.
Both vehicles at the scene had moderate to severe damage that may result in both vehicles being totaled — more likely for the Toyota Camry.
Arlington Heights Public Works arrived on the scene to begin the work to secure and repair the light pole. The sidewalk on the west side of Arlington Heights just south of Rand Road was blocked while utility work was underway. The pole was across the parkway and into the southbound lanes of Arlington Heights immediately after the crash.
Even though three police SUVs were blocking access to southbound Arlington Heights Road, a motorist managed to get into the midst of the scene while passing southbound on Arlington Heights Road. No additional damage or injuries occurred.
The cause of the crash was not initially known.
