Police from North Chicago responded about 5:15 p.m. Sunday, May 15, 2022 to a report of shots fired in the block of 1000 Jackson Street near Jackson Street and 10th Street. North Chicago Police Officers arrived and located a 14-year-old male victim critically injured. The juvenile victim was transported to an area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased shortly after arriving at the hospital.
Preliminary investigation indicates that the victim was at the Citgo station on Jackson Street when he engaged with several occupants of a vehicle in the Citgo parking lot. An occupant of the vehicle and the juvenile victim exchanged gunfire and the vehicle fled the area.
Waukegan Police Officers located the vehicle believed to be connected to the shooting, and a short time later the driver crashed the vehicle in the parking lot of the Waukegan Home Depot. The occupants of the vehicle fled from police officers and three suspects were taken into custody inside the business.
Due to the nature of the incident, the North Chicago Police Department requested the assistance of the Lake County Major Crime Task Force. North Chicago Police Detectives and Task Force Investigators are actively investigating the homicide.
