Police, firefighters, and paramedics from Cary responded about 3:39 p.m. Monday, May 16, 2022 to a report that a child was hit by a school bus at Hill Street and East Cherry Street in Cary. Rescuers received a report that a child was hit by a school bus and CPR was started at the scene. An emergency transport helicopter was activated to stand by near the Cary area to respond to the scene, but was not dispatched to the scene.
The child was pronounced dead at the scene, and the Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) was assigned to assist Cary Police Department with the accident investigation. There was another child and the school bus driver traveling in the school bus at the time of the accident.
The accident occurred near and intersection of quiet sidestreets in a neighborhood of single-family homes just southeast of downtown Cary — between US 14 and Jandus Road and west of Jandus Cut Off Road.
