Arlington Heights police and fire department personnel responded to the BP gas station at Arlington Heights Road and Algonquin Road for a reported man with a knife and a person stabbed Tuesday evening.
Initially, Arlington Heights police responded about 7:29 p.m. Tuesday, May 3, 2022 to the BP gas station at 2250 South Arlington Heights Road for a report of a man with a knife. While officers were en route, the caller further reported that a person had been stabbed. Several individuals fled on foot prior to police arriving.
Arlington Heights Fire Department personnel joined the response about 7:32 p.m. and upon arrival began treating a male who was stabbed in the chest. Paramedics immediately transported the individual to a Level I Trauma Center. The person remains hospitalized in critical, but stable condition.
A second person received a superficial sharp-edged weapon injury to his arm. He was initially treated by paramedics and refused further care. A short time later, the individual reconsidered his medical care and was transported to Northwest Community Hospital for evaluation by a second rescue ambulance crew from Arlington Heights Fire Department. He was treated and was discharged from the hospital.
The Arlington Heights police response included 20 Patrol, K-9, Detective and Supervisory units who were supported by mutual aid from Buffalo Grove, Harper College, Palatine, Rolling Meadows and Wheeling police departments. Arlington Heights Fire Department responded with a Battalion Chief, three ambulances, Rescue Squad 1, and Tower 1. Arlington Heights Fire Department was also supported by a rescue ambulance crew from Rolling Meadows Fire Department.
The suspect is known, but was initially not in police custody. According to the Arlington Heights Police Department, there is no indication he poses a current threat to the public. Preliminary evidence suggests this is an isolated incident.
The investigation was fluid with an active crime scene until about 1:00 a.m. The investigation is ongoing, and the Arlington Heights Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Bureau and forensic technicians are pursuing several investigative leads after processing multiple crime scenes, according to the Arlington Heights Police Department. While the crime scenes were active police were located at the BP Station, at Red Roof Inn, and at Comfort Inn.
Firefighters and paramedics staged across Arlington Heights Road as a precaution.
