Arlington Heights police apparently recovered weapons on a traffic stop near the Holiday Inn Express, 2111 South Arlington Heights Road in Arlington Heights. A witness provided a tip to CARDINAL NEWS that about 10 to 15 police vehicles responded to the area of the Holiday Inn Express. The witness reported to CARDINAL NEWS that police appeared to be inspecting guns and gun cases, and took two adult males into custody.
The driver of a gray Honda Civic pulled into the Holiday Inn Express from Arlington Heights Road. The witness observed police talking to two male adults, who did not appear to resist the police. A K-9 unit was also dispatched to the scene.
Initially it is unknown why police stopped the Honda Civic, and how they determined there were weapons in the passenger vehicle. The Honda Civic had California license plates that might have expired June 2021. The circumstances of the traffic stop apparently allowed police to search the vehicle. The trunk was opened and police were searching contents in the trunk by about 9:30 p.m. A Smart & Final bag was observed in the trunk by bystanders. Smart & Final is a chain of warehouse-style food and supply stores based in Commerce, California with stores primarily in California but also in Arizona and Nevada.
The two male occupants of the vehicle were transported by police in custody northbound on Arlington Heights Road — apparently to the detention facility at Arlington Heights Police Department Headquarters.
