The Lake County Sheriff’s Office and firefighters and paramedics from Long Grove Fire Protection District responded about 11:08 a.m. Wednesday, April 20, 2022 to a report of a transformer fire at 217 Robert Parker Coffin Road in Long Grove.
There was a loud pop, and then smoke was coming from a wood utility pole on the north side of Robert Parker Coffin Road northeast of Old McHenry Road. The pole ignited with flames, and it looked like there was a popped breaker near the top of the pole.
ComEd and Comcast also responded for repairs. According to ComEd, bout 20 ComEd customers were without power at 1:43 p.m. with an estimated restoration time of 2:00 p.m. At 3:57 p.m. there were 5 customers without power, and the estimated restoration time for the remaining customers was 5:30 p.m. At one point ComEd identified the cause of the problem as a probable underground cable problem.
