Illinois State Police and firefighters and paramedics from Palatine, Arlington Heights, and Palatine Rural Fire Protection District responded about 4:27 p.m. Monday, April 25, 2022 to a report of a serious crash with entrapment on the northbound Route 53 spur south of Lake Cook Road.
Rescuers upon arrival discovered a medium-size flat bed pickup truck spun 90 degrees on the right shoulder and a white SUV spun out into the grass median after the crash. The driver in the truck on the right should was trapped in his vehicle. The crash occurred at the beginning of the offramp from northbound Route 53 to eastbound Lake Cook Road.
Firefighter/paramedics worked with extrication tools to free a person from a crashed vehicle. The driver was confirmed to be pinned in his truck. An engine crew pulled a hose line for standby in case of fire during the extrication.
The victim in the truck was extricated by 4:58 p.m. and was transported with Advanced Life Support to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.
