McHenry County Sheriff’s deputies and firefighters and paramedics from Harvard Fire Protection District responded just after 8:00 p.m. Friday, April 1, 2022 to a check for well-being at a house in the block of 19900 Streit Road east of US 14 in unincorporated Harvard.
When McHenry County sheriff’s deputies arrived to a house on rural property surrounded by woods, an armed male came out of the house to the front porch. McHenry County Sheriff’s Office stated that an armed confrontation occurred involving the armed male and McHenry County Sheriff’s Office deputies. The armed male was shot, and no McHenry County Sheriff’s Deputies or other people were injured during the encounter.
The scene was secured for paramedics to move up to treat the shooting victim by about 8:30 p.m. and Advanced Life Support treatment was administered. A LifeNet medical helicopter was immediately dispatched to Mercyhealth Care Center to prepare to meet a paramedic crew with the shooting victim in a Harvard Fire Protection District ambulance. The helicopter landed at the Mercyhealth hospital, and the victim was transferred directly to the helicopter and then transported to Level 1 Trauma Center Javon Bea Hospital — Riverside in Rockford. The male shooting victim was listed in critical condition. The identity of the gunshot victim was not released.
Streit Road was closed between US 14 and Lindwall Roads, during the active incident, and while the McHenry County Major Investigation Assistance Team (MIAT) was assigned to the scene to investigate the armed confrontation.
