Freeze Warning Canceled for Northern Cook and Lake Counties
Arlington Heights low temperature forecast to be 36°F from about 5:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m.
The main forecast concern is the unseasonably cold temperatures and overnight freezing temperatures along with the likelihood of widespread frost late Tuesday night into early Wednesday. Main change to the going Freeze Warning was to cancel the warning for northern Will, DuPage, northern Cook, and Lake Counties, while issuing a Freeze Warning for Livingston and Grundy Counties. Cloud cover forecast has trended more pessimistic and greatly lowered confidence for anything more than very short-lived temps down to 32F in the metro east of the Fox Valley, and in fact do not have any 32F or lower temps forecast in the counties that were removed from the Freeze Warning. Overall change in the message was a reorientation of the headline based off medium-high confidence in 2-4 hours of 30-32F temps with westward extent in the County Warning Area.
Unseasonably cold air mass continues to pour into the area with temperatures only in the mid 40s to lower 50s across northern and central Illinois portions of the CWA as of this writing. The gusty westerly winds have overperformed a bit today, and it`s possible some gustiness hangs on deeper into the evening, also lowering confidence in the temperature forecast with eastward extent. Mid afternoon visible satellite shows extensive strato-Cu back across the northeastern 2/3 of Iowa, with a mainly closed cell look farther north and west and some holes over northern Illinois. Given continued cyclonic flow aloft and another reinforcing wave diving southeast across the upper MS Valley tonight, think that most favored areas to see sufficient clearing overnight for temps to bottom out just below freezing will be the western half of the CWA. Overall think that the duration of freezing temps will be less tonight due to cloudiness hanging on longer area wide, also keeping boundary layer from decoupling more, so not a classic impactful hard freeze as it appears. Continued to withhold any frost mention due to persistent west winds through the night.
The forecast calls for mostly sunny skies in most areas on Tuesday, through northeast Illinois with highs in the mid-50s.
Weather Radar in northeast Illinois was clear.

A chilly air mass over the region for late April will provide the likelihood of a freeze in parts of the area tonight. How long any locales reach 30-32° temperatures overnight is dependent on clearing, and confidence in that is low for the Chicago metro. #ILwx #INwx pic.twitter.com/ArPXumpn7T
