On March 11, 2022, at approximately 1:30 a.m., Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a barn in the 32800 block of Fairfield Road in Unincorporated Mundelein, for was originally believed to be a domestic dispute. Further investigation revealed the victim, a 41-year-old woman of Mundelein, had been abducted by an ex-partner, Claudio Gutierrez-Ocampo, 44, of the 200 block of Park Drive, Round Lake Beach.
Preliminary investigation shows the victim was at home sleeping at her Mundelein residence. She was awakened when Gutierrez-Ocampo unlawfully entered her home, went to her bedroom, and started an argument with the victim. The victim’s adult daughter woke up and heard the commotion. Gutierrez-Ocampo forced the victim outside of the residence, battered her, and forced her into his van.
Gutierrez-Ocampo then drove the victim to a property he owns in the 32800 block of Fairfield Road, where he locked the victim into a makeshift bedroom, inside of a barn on the property. Gutierrez-Ocampo then forcefully removed the victim’s clothing.
When the victim’s daughter realized Gutierrez-Ocampo abducted her mother, she had the inclination to first check the remote property on Fairfield road, owned by Gutierrez-Ocampo. She saw Gutierrez-Ocampo’s van at the property, went to the barn and tried to get in, but Gutierrez-Ocampo had the barn locked. The victim’s daughter then called 911 and sheriff’s deputies responded.
Sheriff’s deputies were able to rescue the victim from the barn and place Gutierrez-Ocampo into custody. The victim sustained injuries from Gutierrez-Ocampo battering her, however, none of the injuries were life-threatening.
Gutierrez-Ocampo was subsequently charged with:
Two counts of Kidnapping (Class 2 Felonies)
Two counts of Home Invasion (Class 2 Felonies)
Unlawful Restraint (Class 4 Felony)
Two Counts of Domestic Battery (Class A Misdemeanors)
Additional charges are possible.
Gutierrez-Ocampo remains held in the Lake County Jail pending an initial court hearing this morning.
All defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
