The rifle Kyle Rittenhouse used to defend himself while working as a volunteer to defend property in Kenosha during rioting and arson crimes in August 2020 was destroyed by mechanical shredding using a GunBusters Firearms Pulverizer.
The Smith & Wesson M&P15 AR-15 style rifle was destroyed on February 25, 2022.
Then a 17-year-old, Rittenhouse was accused of shooting three rioters (killing two) on Tuesday, August 25, 2020 about 11:45 p.m. near 63rd Street and Sheridan Road in Kenosha.
Rittenhouse was found not-guilty on all five counts, including first degree intentional homicide counts and first degree reckless endangering counts on Friday, November 19, 2021. A sixth count of possession of a dangerous weapon by a person under 18 had been previously dismissed.

Attorney for Rittenhouse, Mark Richards, filed a motion Jan. 19, 2022 asking prosecutors to return the rifle Rittenhouse, along with his ammunition, his face mask and other clothing he was wearing the night of the shooting to him. Mark Richards and David Hancock, a spokesman for Rittenhouse, said that Rittenhouse wants to destroy the rifle and discard the other items so none of the items can be used as a political symbol or as a trophy celebrating the shootings.
Regarding polarized politics, some conservatives and libertarians have complimented the actions of Rittenhouse, saying he was defending Kenosha from far-left militants, and that he precisely targeted only the offenders that attacked him. Some liberals and libertarians have described Rittenhouse as a murderer and a racist, who indiscriminately fired his weapon at passers by during a protest in Kenosha.
Rittenhouse announced on February 21, 2022 that news agencies, celebrities, and athletes will be targeted in court for telling lies about him. He specifically called out Whoopi Goldberg for calling him a murderer after he was acquitted by a jury of his peers. He also called out Cenk Uygur, founder of The Young Turks, who Rittenhouse claims called him a murderer before the not-guilty verdict and after the not-guilty verdict.
The Rittenhouse team also hopes to bring to court the people who lied and called Kyle Rittenhouse a white supremacist.
