A total of six vehicles were involved in the crash, including a tractor semi-trailer, an additional tractor pulling a fuel tank, and four passenger cars. No hazardous materials leaked from the fuel truck as a result of this crash, and no HAZMAT response was required.
Preliminary investigation indicates that while a driver of a passenger car was attempting a lane change, the passenger car struck the semi-trailer truck, which caused the passenger car to cross over into oncoming traffic, and eventually roll over onto the roof of the vehicle.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Initially no citations were issued. The Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team is assisting with the investigation of this case, which remains an open and active investigation. Kirk Road is a 4-lane suburban highway with no shoulders. The Speed Limit is 45 MPH according to Google Maps Street View images captured July 2019.
The roadway remains closed at 5:25 p.m. Monday, and motorists are urged to find alternate routes.
Anyone with any information about this crash is asked to contact the Batavia Police Department at 630-454-2500.
