The government of Poland announced Tuesday afternoon, March 8, 2022 that it’s ready to deploy all of their MiG-29 fighter jets to the Ramstein US air base in Germany.
The MiG-29 fighter jets will be deployed immediately and free of charge. The jets are expected to be turned over to the United States government, which would provide them to Ukraine, according to a statement from the Polish foreign ministry. The arrangement on the United States was not initially confirmed.
According to multiple news sources, Ukrainian pilots are already trained to fly MiG-29 fighter jets.
“At the same time, Poland requests the United States to provide us with used aircraft with corresponding operational capabilities. Poland is ready to immediately establish the conditions of purchase of the planes,” the Polish foreign ministry added. The statement from the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland urged “other NATO Allies — owners of MIG-29 jets — to act in the same vein.”
