Guilty Verdict/Jury Trial Leaving Scene of Fatal Crash in Waukegan
(Lake County, IL) – On Wednesday, March 23, 2022, a jury trial for Linda Ray concluded in the Lake County courthouse with a “guilty” verdict.
Linda Ray, 47 years old, was convicted of Aggravated Leaving the Scene of an Accident Involving Death. Chad Aiello was riding his bicycle in Waukegan on June 4, 2020, when Ray’s SUV struck him. Aiello was pronounced dead at the hospital. The jury found that Ray knew she had hit Aiello and did not remain on the scene of the collision. Aiello, a father of one, was from Kenosha and the courtroom was filled with his family and friends throughout the trial. Ray will next be in court on May 18, 2022, for sentencing.
Linda Ray faces up to 15 years in prison.
Lake County State’s Attorney Eric Rinehart praised four prosecutors who worked on the Linda Ray case and another case involving Criminal Sexual Assault — both resulting in guilty verdicts today.

Due to the current phase of the pandemic and updated court procedures, the Lake County State’s Attorney’s office anticipates an increased number of jury trials.
Assistant State’s Attorneys Scott Hoffert and Lauren Kalcheim Rothenberg prosecuted the Linda Ray case.
