Police from Arlington Heights responded before 2:48 p.m. Friday, March 4, 2022 to a report of a fight in progress at VisionWorks, 511 East Palatine Road in Arlington Heights. Police on arrival found at least one battery victim injured, and called for paramedics to respond to the scene about 2:48 p.m.
Police are investigating a report that a man wearing a mask approached a father and son inside the VisionWorks store and took a closeup picture of the father and son. The masked man apparently took the picture of the father and son because they were not wearing masks.
An argument ensued and escalated to the point where the unmasked dad pushed and punched the masked man taking the picture(s).
At least two people inside the store attempted to break up the fight, but the physical fight escalated with the unmasked man on top of the masked man delivering punches to the masked man, who was on the floor. While a man tried to pull the unmasked man off of the masked man, the unmasked man locked his legs around the masked man and stayed locked on him until police arrived.
When police arrived, the unmasked man claimed self-defense as the reason for the battering. One of the men, apparently the unmasked man, was arrested and transported in custody to Arlington Heights Police Department headquarters. The masked man was assessed by paramedics, but was not transported by paramedics to a hospital.
