Dozens of semi-trailer trucks were involved in a crash or disabled in snow, and about 100 passengers vehicles were stranded in a traffic backup Thursday afternoon.
Illinois State Police announced at 3:47 p.m. that District 8 Troopers were on scene of a multi-vehicle crash on I-39 southbound at milepost 14 (El Paso).
I-39 southbound is currently shut down at this time 3:24 p.m.
At 3:47 p.m. The Illinois State Police stated on Twitter that they “highly encourage you to avoid any travel at this time due to hazardous road conditions.” At 10:22 a.m. Thursday, Illinois State Police had warned that “high rates of snowfall and blizzard like conditions will cause poor visibility and hazardous travel conditions throughout Illinois starting around 11:00 a.m.”
We highly encourage you to leave work early to avoid travel during the inclement weather.
