Street Racing Crash Takes Out 2 Light Poles on Algonquin Rd, Arlington Heights

Police, firefighters and paramedics from Arlington Heights responded about 9:05 p.m. Tuesday, January 11, 2022 to a report of a crash on westbound Algonquin Road east of Meijer Drive in Arlington Heights.

Police on arrival discovered two large metal light poles down in the right lane in the block of 700 West Alongquin Road, and one vehicle still on the the scene. No injuries were reported.

Police are investigating a report of a crash involving two vehicles. One driver fled the scene after allegedly pushing a yellow vehicle into snow banks on the parkway and into two 50-foot aluminum light poles. Both light poles were down and partially blocking westbound Algonquin Road. The lights were initially believed to be village-managed poles and several public works crews were on the scene for for damage recovery and/or repairs late Tuesday night.

Westbound Algonquin Road was closed by police at Arlington Heights Road after the crash.
