Tornado damage from the Sanibel Captiva Guide YouTube Tips ⓘ
Florida Highway Patrol troopers spotted a large tornado traveling over Interstate 75 at Mile Marker 100 in Collier County. The tornado was observed about 9:34 a.m. moving east of the toll plaza and moving east toward Golden Gate Estate, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
A semi-trailer rollover crash at I-75 WEST Mile Marker 96 caused by high winds resulted in minor injuries.
According to Florida Power and Light, thousands of people were without power in Lee County and Collier County.
A Tornado Watch was activated for most of South Florida, including Miami, until 3:00 p.m. EST. As of 10:45 a.m. Sunday, January 16, 2022 and beginning about 1:00 a.m. EST, at least 23 Tornado Warnings were issued in Florida.
