The Lake County Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Group concluded a month-long investigation into a man suspected of trafficking drugs in Lake County.
The investigation concluded with Special Investigations Group Detectives conducting a search warrant at the residence of a convicted felon, Deonte L. Johnson, 34, of the 1500 block of North Avenue, Waukegan. During the search warrant, detectives located and seized:
Four firearms, one of which was stolen
148 ecstasy pills
58 grams of powder MDMA
Over 170 grams of cocaine
Amounts of methamphetamine, oxycodone pills, and heroin
Over 28 pounds of cannabis
Nearly all of the drugs were packaged for distribution.
Following the investigation, the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office approved the following charges for Johnson:
Four counts of aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon
Four counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute
Three counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance
Unlawful possession of cannabis with intent to distribute
Unlawful possession of cannabis
The above charges range from ‘class x felonies’ to ‘class 4 felonies.’
Sheriff John D. Idleburg said, “Our Special Investigations Group is doing an excellent job finding those who are trafficking guns, drugs, and people in our community. I am very proud of the number of dangerous people they have arrested and the massive amounts of drugs they have been keeping out of Lake County.”
Johnson is due in court for an initial court hearing today.
All defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
