DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin announced today, Wednesday, January 19, 2022, that Stephan Filipiak, age 58, formerly of Addison, has been sentenced to natural life without the possibility of parole in the Illinois Department of Corrections for sexually assaulting an acquaintance’s two minor daughters. On October 8, 2021, following a three-day-long trial, a jury found Filipiak guilty of two counts of Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault – Victim Under Thirteen Years-Old, a Class X Felony. Filipiak’s sentence was handed down by Judge Michael Reidy.
The sentence is the result of allegations that in October 2018, Filipiak sexually assaulted the two girls at his residence in Addison. Once the victims’ parents became aware of the matter, they reported it to authorities who immediately opened an investigation. On October 31, 2018, Filipiak appeared in Bond Court where bond was set at $1 million with 10% to apply. He has remained in custody at the DuPage County Jail since that time.
“My heart goes out to these two young girls who, through no fault of their own, found themselves victimized by Mr. Filipiak’s sexual assault. It is my sincerest hope that they will be able to recover from the emotional scars he has undoubtedly inflicted upon them. I would like to thank the Addison Police Department, the DuPage County Children’s Center, particularly Investigator Vince Liberio, as well as Assistant State’s Attorneys Cathy Nusgart and Alexandria Levan for their efforts not only on this case, but for their ongoing work in protecting society’s most vulnerable from child sexual predators such as Mr. Filipiak.”
