A man is in custody after a Christmas tree was set ablaze outside the News Corporation building in Midtown Manhattan, police say (WPRI-TV Rhode Island). YouTube Tips ⓘ

Police and firefighters from New York City responded about 12:25 a.m. Wednesday, December 8, 2021 when the “All-American Christmas Tree” was completely engulfed in flames. A suspect was detained by NYPD immediately after the fire was reported.

A witness reported the male suspect climbed into the tree carrying newspapers, and ignited the newspapers to start the fire.

No injuries were reported.
