Police and firefighters from Quakerstown responded about 1:30 a.m. Christmas morning, December 25, 2021 to a report of a duplex house fire in the 0-99 block of Essex Court in Quakerstown, Pennsylvania.
A 41-year-old father and his two boys, 11 and 8 years-old, were trapped by the fire inside the duplex house, and died. Their mother and oldest brother were able to escape, and survived.
The residents of the other unit in the duplex home, known as a ‘twin home,’ are a mother and her son. They were able evacuate, but suffered burns, and were transported by paramedics to a nearby hospital. At the hospital they were treated for burns and smoke inhalation.
According to Quakertown School District and gofundme information, Eric King, Liam King, Patrick King, and their two dogs died in the fire, but the oldest son, Brady, and mom, Kristin, were able to escaped.
Liam was a fifth-grader, and Patrick was a third-grader at Richland Elementary School. Brady is an eighth-grader at Strayer Middle School.
Initially the cause of the fire was not officially confirmed, but Quakertown police chief Scott McElree said officials believe that Christmas lights on the family’s Christmas tree ignited, and caused the house fire. The state fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
