A National Weather Service page that provides access to observed current weather conditions for about 2,500 locations across the United States and US Territories has been in a failed state since at least Tuesday, November 23, 2021. Two file formats designed for computer to computer data transfer are provided on the page. RSS and XML lists are provided to aid the automated dissemination of weather observation information.
From Albertus Airport and Aurora Municipal Airport to Chicago’s DuPage, Midway, O’Hare, Palwaukee (Chicago Executive), Waukegan to Lewis, Joliet, Peoria to University of Illinois – Willard and all in between in Illinois, all stations have failed. There are 60 land stations that are not reporting properly in Illinois.
There are 142 failed land stations in California.
There are 46 failed land stations in New York.
There are 94 failed land stations in Florida.
Most or all stations in Illinois are stuck on an update from Nov 24 2021, around 10 am CST. They were previously stuck on an update from November 23, 2021, then there was one update on November 24, 2021. The feeds are designed to update weather observations hourly, 24 hours per day.
The National Weather Service had not provided an explanation for the failure on the “dashboard” page titled “XML Feeds of Current Weather Conditions” as of Thursday, November 25, 2021.
