Police from Arlington Heights, and firefighters and paramedics from Palatine responded about 11:52 a.m. Monday, November 1, 2021 to a report of a rollover truck crash with a passenger vehicle with injuries at Dundee Road and Wilke Road in Arlington Heights.
Police and firefighters on arrival discovered an Enterprise box truck rolled to the passenger side with the truck driver inside the rental truck. The truck had crashed with a blue Volkswagen Eos. Palatine firefighters cut out the windshield of the truck and extricated the driver out the windshield opening. The truck driver did not report any significant injuries and refused transportation to the hospital.
The female driver of the Volkswagen Eoswas transported to Northwest Community Hospital with injuries that initially appeared to be non-life-threatening.
A person at the scene thought that the male driver of the truck was eastbound on Dundee Road and may have been crossing through the intersection on a stale yellow light. The driver of the VW EOS entered the intersection, presumably on a green light and the two vehicles were involved in an intersection crash. The truck then rolled to the passenger side in the eastbound lanes of Dundee Road just east of Wilke Road. Police officers on the scene did not confirm the cause of the crash and were investigating.
Dundee Road was immediately closed by noon in both directions between Kennicott Avenue and Wilke Road. All lanes were re-opened by about 1:00 p.m. Monday.
Palatine firefighters and paramedics were assigned because the crash was initially reported as located at a ramp to Route 53, which is located in a Palatine Fire Department district.
Illinois State Police were also assigned to the scene, since the crash involved a truck on a state highway (Route 68).
