Arlington Heights police overnight in the early morning hours Sunday, October 24, 2021 to a commercial burglary and trespassing at the former Cake Box location at 1617 West Campbell Street in Arlington Heights, IL.
A witness reported that police were on the scene when a group of people entered the empty retail space and may have been having some type of party in the former bakery store located on Campbell Street just east of Wilke Road.
Initially it was unknown whether a passerby reported commercial burglary and criminal trespass or whether police on patrol discovered the party. The witness described the “partygoers” as mostly black, but was to far to determine there were male and female suspects.
Some employees that work at the strip mall were aware of a break-in at the former Cake Box location.
In an act of government transparency degradation, the Village of Arlington has stopped informing the public about criminal incidents that don’t involve arrests in the Village of Arlington Heights. For example, currently there are no reports to the public regarding residential burglaries, commercial burglaries, auto thefts, catalytic converter thefts even though they have occurred
In Arlington Heights, for example, there has not been a regular property crime report in Citizen Observer since February 15, 2021 — even though there have been residential burglaries, commercial burglaries, criminal damage cases, theft cases and other cases since that date. The abrupt stoppage of information did not accompany any announcement regarding why the regular Citizen Observer posts were discontinued or even that they were going to be discontinued.
