Police, firefighters and paramedics from Arlington Heights responded about 4:07 p.m. Wednesday, October 27, 2021 to a report of a crash with injuries at Arlington Heights Road and Euclid Avenue in Arlington Heights.
Police, firefighters and paramedics discovered a Chevy Trax with front-end damage and a Honda Pilot with driver’s side door damage. The driver of the Honda Pilot reported being injured, and was treated and transported to Northwest Community Hospital by Arlington Heights Fire Department paramedics.
A Nest cam view of the intersection of Arlington Heights Road and Euclid Avenue captured the crash, and the moments before the crash. The video showed that the driver of the Honda Pilot was stopped at a stoplight in the eastbound straight lane of Euclid Avenue. Arlington Heights Road traffic was next stopped in both directions for a red light. Next, the green left arrow traffic signal activated for both directions of Euclid Avenue, and motorists turned left from eastbound and westbound lanes of Euclid Avenue to northbound and southbound Arlington Heights Road lanes, respectively.
Next the traffic lights turned green for eastbound and westbound straight-through traffic.
The driver of the Honda Pilot moved forward eastbound on Euclid Avenue to pass through the intersection, while the driver of a white pickup truck moved forward westbound on Euclid Avenue to pass through the intersection. The driver of the white pickup stopped after noticing that the driver of the Chevy Trax that was southbound on Arlington Heights road was about to violate the red light traffic signal.
The driver of the Chevy Trax attempted to stop to avoid striking the Honda Pilot, but could not stop in time, and hit the Honda Pilot in a T-bone type crash on the driver’s side of the Honda Pilot.
Several witnesses stopped near the scene to report to police officer how the crash occurred. Information about any charges was not initially available from the Arlington Heights Police Department.
The information in this article is an early report published before any summary information was confirmed or released by police or fire authorities.
